Hi, I’m Cécile. Welcome to The Right Balance.
It’s always hard to find the right words to describe ourselves but if I had to pick a few, I would simply say the following:
I am a woman, I am French and I am a solo backpacker.
I moved from the South-West of France, where I was born and raised, to London in 2006. I’ve spent most of my time working as a journalist and writing about finance since then.
But, as much as I enjoy this job, what really helps me find a sense of purpose and balance in life is travelling. I’ve visited more than twenty countries over the past ten years, mostly solo.
Many people think this is bizarre or crazy. That’s actually the feedback I get when I say I often travel on my own. But, to me, travelling solo is a good way to push back our boundaries and cast our own fears.
Far greater still than that, it remains the best way to really get to know a country, its populations and its culture.
Over time, I’ve had the chance to meet with some wonderful people who opened their home to me, offered me a meal and spent hours talking about the country they love. These encounters are priceless and I always find myself with hundreds of photos to show and stories to tell when I go home.
That’s how The Right Balance was born. The idea of this blog is to share with you my experience of London and the countries I have visited.
My aim is to encourage you to go and see the world. And if you’re willing to go solo, even better. I hope you enjoy the site.
